When I saw an image of Marisa for the first time, I knew I had to photograph her. Fragile, modern and ethereal were associations that came to my mind and images and ideas started bouncing around in my head immediately. All of the ideas had something to do with nature, simplicity and contrasts and when I pitched my idea to her, she was all for it. So we met on a Sunday morning in the cacti house of a local botanical garden and simply started shooting. I love the simplicity of this session – no make up, no fancy outfits, no accessories or props. Just Marisa. Her strong gaze, modern look and fragility and posture provide the contrast to the spiky cacti with their intricate details and their old age. To me, this session is the perfect fusion of nature, a human being and the urban environment they are embedded in.
